My Charity:
Junior Leadership Englewood
Junior Leadership Englewood is a program designed to empower our youth and create leaders for our future. It is a program that gives high school students the chance to step outside the classroom and learn what leadership really looks like in the real world. Each month, we visit different places around Englewood like the hospital, city hall, local businesses, and nonprofits, to see how everything runs and how different parts of the community work together. We get to meet with local leaders, ask questions, and have real conversations about the challenges and successes in our area. It's not just about learning facts, it's about building confidence, making connections, and seeing where we can make a difference. Being part of Junior Leadership has helped me grow, not just as a student, but as someone who wants to give back and be involved in something bigger than ourselves.
About Me:
My name is Addison Morey, and I’m a 2024 graduate of Lemon Bay High School with a heart for service and a drive to make a difference. Throughout high school, I completed over 1,600 hours of community service and raised $7,000 for breast cancer awareness through Think Pink. I was honored to be inducted into the Senior Hall of Fame and discovered my passion for healthcare through Student Athletic Training. Inspired by my mom’s community involvement through the Chamber, Rotary, and YMCA, I’ve stayed active in Englewood—whether that’s volunteering, working, or creating new opportunities for other students.
I started Junior Leadership Englewood to help connect youth with the people and places shaping our town, giving students a chance to get involved in ways that are real and meaningful. As an intern at the Englewood Chamber of Commerce, I’ve had the chance to help plan events, work alongside local businesses, and support community efforts. I also serve as a Youth Voice Board Member for the YMCA, where I advocate for the ideas and needs of young people. After Hurricane Ian, I joined recovery efforts and helped organize a food drive to support families in need.
In the future, I plan to pursue a career in nursing—a field that lets me combine my passion for healthcare with my desire to help others. I hope to continue growing the program I started and creating more ways for students to get involved and feel empowered. As Mayor for a Day, I want to bring people together, amplify youth voices, and show our community that this generation is not only ready—but more than capable—of making a lasting impact.
